Lorem Ipsum is the most famous placeholder text in the history of printing and typesetting. It has been the industry's standard dummy text for over 500 years — since the 1500s when an unknown printer scrambled a passage of Latin text to make a type specimen book. The text has survived five centuries and into the digital age virtually unchanged.
Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by the Roman philosopher Cicero, written in 45 BC. The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s was scrambled to make it unreadable. The first word "Lorem" is a truncation of "dolorem" meaning pain or grief in Latin.
It was popularized in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker. In the digital era, it became ubiquitous with the rise of web design tools and content management systems.
